Choose Rakuten if you want a straightforward first portal and can work with its standard quarterly cash payments. Compare TopCashback and BeFrugal when you want to check alternative offers and request a withdrawal after your rewards become available. None of the three is guaranteed to pay the highest rate on every item.
Provider information checked: October 19, 2026. This comparison focuses on the U.S. shopping experience and cash redemption.
A cash back portal looks simple until you compare two different meanings of “getting paid.” One site may show a larger offer today. Another may offer your preferred withdrawal method. Neither fact tells you whether the same product is eligible or how long the retailer will take to approve it.
This guide compares Rakuten, TopCashback and BeFrugal around the decisions that change your outcome: what qualifies, how you start the shopping trip, and when a pending reward becomes money you can use. For other types of rewards, start with our 10 best cash back apps and programs for 2026.
Rakuten vs. TopCashback vs. BeFrugal at a glance
| Question | Rakuten | TopCashback | BeFrugal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where do I begin? | Activate an eligible retailer shopping trip. | Start through the retailer's Get Cash Back link. | Sign in and follow an eligible Shop Now link or offer. |
| Standard cash route | PayPal or check. | Bank transfer, PayPal or Venmo among listed choices. | PayPal, bank deposit, Venmo, Zelle or check, subject to method eligibility. |
| Minimum | $5.01 confirmed for standard payment; gift cards have separate rules. | No general minimum for available cash back in the provider's overview; method conditions still apply. | Several electronic methods list $0.01; checks require $25. Some older accounts must accept updated terms. |
| Payout timing / schedule | Standard cash payments every three months. | Request after cash back becomes available. | Request payable cash back, subject to request-frequency limits. |
| Retailer wait | Purchase must be confirmed before inclusion in a payment. | Getting-started guide gives a one-to-three-month average before payable status. | Generally 30–90 days before verified rewards become payable. |
| After requesting payment | Quarterly cash schedule; confirmed-balance gift cards are a separate faster option. | PayPal/Venmo: 1–2 business days; ACH: up to five business days. | Most payouts are sent the next business day; actual receipt depends on method. |
These are published program rules, not a result from personally timed withdrawals. See the official Rakuten schedule, TopCashback delivery estimates, and BeFrugal payout help.
Which portal would we choose?
Rakuten for a first, repeatable shopping routine
Our recommendation for a beginner is to establish one habit: check the retailer's eligible offer, start from the portal, then finish the order. Rakuten is our first choice for that use case, provided you are comfortable waiting for its payment cycle. A system you remember to use is more valuable than a slightly larger theoretical return from an account you forget.
Its payment options also include gift-card redemption of eligible confirmed balances. That can be faster than waiting for cash, but it changes what you receive. Choose it because you want that gift card, rather than because you mistake it for an early bank payment.
TopCashback when comparing an important purchase
TopCashback is a useful second quote before a larger order. Compare the exact item and any customer-category conditions, not just the biggest percentage near the retailer's name. The provider's guide explains that vouchers must be listed and authorized for use with its cash back.
It can also suit someone who prefers to request payment once the retailer has settled the reward. The provider's overview says there is no general minimum to withdraw available cash back. That flexibility is useful, but it does not turn the retailer-approval period into an immediate payment.
BeFrugal when its eligible offer or payment method fits better
BeFrugal is worth comparing alongside the first two. Its shopping-trip help describes a recorded click ID, which is useful to retain with your receipt if something does not track. The practical choice is whether its particular offer works for your order and preferred way of being paid.
Its low electronic payout minimum can be attractive if you shop infrequently. However, the terms restrict how often payments can be requested: generally once every 15 days for amounts over $25, or once every 30 days otherwise. Read the current account instructions before treating a low minimum as unlimited instant withdrawals.
Who pays fastest? Start the clock at the same point
There are three milestones: the order appears, the retailer approves and funds it, and the payment reaches you. A provider's “one business day” estimate might describe only the last part. Comparing that with another site's full quarterly schedule is not an equal test of purchase-to-cash speed.
Rakuten's standard dates are February 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15 for qualifying confirmed earnings. A purchase can miss a date if it has not been confirmed. TopCashback and BeFrugal let you request eligible available/payable balances, but the retailer wait can still be measured in months. Travel bookings may have to be completed before verification proceeds.
Our advice is to record the expected approval date with each order and avoid spending a pending balance in your budget. Read how long cashback takes for a fuller explanation of tracking, confirmation and delivery.
A better comparison than “which site shows 10%?”
Suppose you already plan to buy a $200 item. These are hypothetical offers, not rates currently offered by any named program:
| Option | What happens | Illustrative cost after approved reward |
|---|---|---|
| Offer A | $200 eligible price and 5% cash back. | $190. |
| Offer B | A permitted coupon lowers the eligible price to $180; 2% cash back applies. | $176.40. |
| Offer C | “Up to 10%” is advertised, but your item is excluded. | $200; no qualifying cash back. |
The lower percentage can produce the lower total cost. Taxes, shipping, fees, return conditions and different reward bases can change the result. Never count a coupon and a portal reward together unless that combination is permitted.
A simple routine that reduces avoidable tracking problems
- Compare first. Check the eligible product, restrictions and permitted coupons before starting the shopping trip.
- Choose one portal. Avoid activating another cash back or coupon extension after clicking through. A later click can change which service receives credit.
- Use the required shopping flow. Stay within the browser or supported app route specified by the offer.
- Keep evidence. Save the offer, shopping-trip record, order number and confirmation email without sharing sensitive payment details publicly.
- Check the account after the stated tracking window. Follow the provider's missing-cashback process if the order is absent, and disclose returns honestly.
This checklist reduces mistakes; it cannot guarantee tracking. BeFrugal's cash back FAQ and TopCashback's terms explain why another shopping service, incompatible coupon, refund or missing retailer payment can affect a reward.
Questions before joining
Should I sign up for all three?
You can compare more than one account, but start with the number you can manage. If another portal offers a hypothetical extra 1% on a $30 eligible order, that is 30 cents. Decide whether the extra account and tracking effort are worth it for your routine.
Can I stack Rakuten and TopCashback on the same order?
Do not plan on earning two portal rewards from the same tracked order. Use one portal, and evaluate any separate card or receipt offer under its own rules. Our stacking guide explains the difference.
Does a higher rate make a program more reliable?
No. An advertised offer and the reliability of a program are different questions. Look at who operates it, its published terms and support process, and the eligibility for your transaction. A high percentage on an excluded item produces no useful comparison.
Which one is best for me?
Use Rakuten if its shopping flow and payment schedule suit you. Check TopCashback and BeFrugal when their eligible offer or payout choices improve the fit. Start from our full shopping cashback comparison table, then read the provider's current terms for the actual purchase.
